Productivity, positivity and progression: three key words that best summarise the character traits of our Senior Business Manager, Alena Ivanova. Whether it’s learning a new language or helping a candidate secure their dream job, she always delivers! Read on to really get to know the person behind the position…

Firstly, how are you feeling? What’s it like to be working remotely – how has your routine / work changed?

Working remotely hasn’t really changed anything for me; if anything, there’s less distractions, plus my home represents a more productive and peaceful environment.

Any advice for people working remotely?

Create a comfortable environment… oh, and don’t forget to buy a huge pack of delicious coffee!

What made you choose recruitment as a career?

I am a language person – psychology is my personal interest – but to be honest I have never thought about working in recruitment. Recruitment chose me and gave me a chance to like it.

It’s said if we don’t learn something every single day, it’s a wasted day. Well,  working at Manning Global brings me in to contact – via phone and email – with lots of people on daily basis, so I definitely learn something new every day! Also, it feels nice to know I helped a candidate make a positive change in their work life!

What qualities do you need to succeed at Manning Global?

The ability to get through a stressful situation would be helpful! Recruitment is like a roller coaster – tighten your belt and enjoy the ride!

What’s your proudest professional accomplishment?

Graduating from Uni – without a doubt! I’m gifted but not very lucky. Let me explain… I had to re-write my Master thesis in five days; it was a funny time. Writing research work on the small piece of paper at the bus station or standing in the subway and typing the analysis’s results on the phone. I still remember the shocked faces of the Chinese people stood next to me!

If you could listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I can’t choose between Reamonn – Supergirl and Crossfade – Breathing Slowly (acoustic version).

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Reading, training and cooking.

What are you binge-watching right now?

Upload.

What was the best piece of advice you were ever given?

When I couldn’t decide to stay or go, my dad said: “If you are still thinking, then you have already made a decision”.

If you had one super power, what would it be?

To stop people from over-thinking. I believe it would help a lot of us to be more present and mindful, and live with a focus on the really important things.

Finally, what is your life motto?

The most important things are invisible to the eyes.
