What motivated you to pursue a career in finance and international business?
To be very honest, I was not very good at science. So I took commerce. Gradually I found that numbers interest me and I am good at it. So I decided to go with it. Also, I was always interested in business management and operations. So while pursuing my post graduation, finance and international business was the best combo I had.
Can you describe your typical day-to-day responsibilities as an Assistant Finance Manager…
It’s quite diverse; tasks are categorised on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. This includes invoicing and overseeing client accounts that require attention. Other duties include reporting, accounts receivables, payables, and commissions. Despite being in the finance department, I interact a lot with internal people as well as with clients.
What is the best thing about your job at Manning Global?
I work with an amazing team; they are super supportive and we have a lot of communication on a daily basis. My job also provides me with the freedom to work from home, which I’m eternally grateful for.
Most importantly, I look up to Rachael, our Founder and CEO. She is understanding, supportive and is always motivating our team to achieve its goals!
How long have you worked for Manning Global?
3.5 years… Time flies when you are in a good place!
What is your advice to someone considering a career with Manning Global?
If you are looking for a good work-life balance and flexibility, then Manning Global’s working environment will bring you a lot of joy!
How do you stay organised and productive while working remotely?
Initially, I struggled to keep up with working remotely, until I started prioritising my tasks. Making a daily schedule – together with a comfortable work space – has helped a lot.
Any advice for people working remotely?
It’s important to find out one’s shortcomings. Avoid checking mobile notifications and also prepare a healthy space to work in. Proper meals and breaks are key!
How do you handle tight deadlines and ensure accuracy in financial reporting?
I have my checklist and schedule which I strictly abide by. We do have deadlines depending on clients, but as I mentioned earlier, I understand my priorities and assign realistic time frames. In reporting, accuracy is of the utmost priority. I always cross-check data and take references from the people concerned, to check the accuracy of the data I am using. I also try to leverage technology where possible.
Can you share a piece of advice or a lesson you’ve learned that has helped you in your career?
There was a statement said by the Director of my college – “Never restrict yourself to a certain set of people. Restricting oneself restricts knowledge and growth. Always be open to new people, new opportunities.” I have never forgotten this!
Finally, what are your hobbies outside of work?
I love traveling and exploring new places. Also, at times I like to read light novels. I also dedicate my time to improving my skills either in terms of tools or certifications.
Finally, I am a mentor for a non-profit organisation where I help out young ladies from South Asia concerning their academics or their concerns related to their career goals. I won’t count this as a hobby as, for me, this is my contribution to the community.
