He’s loved telecoms from an early age and now he’s getting to fulfil his dream job of Field Supervisor FTTX, working on important projects in Ireland on behalf of Manning Global. Here’s Peter’s thoughts on 5G, the power of the internet and the telecoms project he’s most proud of completing in his native Poland…
Firstly, thanks for agreeing to speak to us Peter, to get us started, please could you tell us a little about how you came to work with Manning Global…
Well, I was working in the UK as a Quality Inspector and also had my own business in financial advisory, but I was always thinking to come back to my first job (in Poland) which was in telecom. Anyway, I saw the job advertised on your website, got in touch, and here I am two years later!
Please can summarise your career journey that led to work as a Field Supervisor FTTX…
Well, I’ve always been passionate about the power of the internet and its ability to connect everyone, so I knew from the start this was the right career choice!
What are your main KPIs for this role?
- Customer support
- Team supervision: ensuring everyone has the correct tools and is working efficiently and in a safe environment
- Support operational requirements of all projects in Ireland
What qualities do you need to succeed as Field Supervisor FTTX?
You have to be ready to change and adapt, especially in telecoms where things change so rapidly.
What excites you the most about the future of telecoms?
The idea that every single one of us humans will have access to it and will be able to connect with anyone in the world.
What are your thoughts on 5G and how do you feel it will benefit businesses and consumers going forward?
5G is the next step in wireless communications. Services powered by 5G will accelerate the digital transformation of the network, cloud and client in many sectors: self-driving cars, remote health care, games and new experiences. However, it’s so much more than that; it’s about the connected home, making your life more comfortable.
What’s a typical working day like working for KN in Ireland?
My typical working day usually starts with lots of calls and mails about organisation of projects. The afternoon is just pure excitement seeing the projects come to fruition!
Speaking of Ireland, what do you like most about the country?
Wonderful views: green lands, mountains, oceans… what’s not to like?!
Are there any other countries in the world you would like to work, if so, why would you like to work there?
Australia. The best things about Australia are an unspoiled natural environment, great climate, and multicultural society.
Which telecoms project so far in your career are you most proud of?
I am most proud of a small project back in my native Poland – building infrastructure to allow access to broadband internet for small villages and schools.
Finally, what are your hobbies outside of work?
Running and reading books about business, psychology, philosophy and technology.
